Unit 5 · Teacher-led oral practice
The First Visit
A new family. An unfamiliar evening.
Look closely before you turn the page.

From speaking to writing
Look. Feel. Discover. Predict.
Practise the ideas for an informal email about making a good first impression: feelings, preparation, appearance, behaviour and conversation topics. Build your own sentences; there is more than one possible interpretation.
- 1 · DescribeSay what is visible, with as much detail as you can.
- 2 · InterpretExplain how someone might feel. Give a visual clue.
- 3 · DiscoverReveal the short story and listen.
- 4 · PredictSuggest what someone might say or what could happen next.

Your interactive storybook
Tap the cover to open the book. Tap any picture or the projection button to enlarge it for the TV. Questions can fill the screen too.
The story stays hidden until you choose Discover. Turn the page only after students have made their predictions.
On a phone, landscape gives the picture more room. Portrait also works.

Teacher guide · How to lead the activity
Choose a different student for each question. Invite classmates to add a new detail instead of repeating the same description. Allow thinking time and accept different interpretations when students explain their evidence.
Start with the image alone. Ask two description questions, then one feelings question. Reveal and play the narration afterwards. Ask the two prediction questions before turning the page. On the next image, briefly compare: “I thought…, but now…”
Use Help me describe only when support is needed. Describe visible actions first; appearance alone does not prove personality. The final page connects the oral story to an informal email. This practice does not submit work or add a grade.
Suggested pacing: pages 1–6, 7–12 and 13–17 across three sessions, or select a starting page for a shorter lesson.
