Objective

What students will do

Students will create and present a short shopping conversation. One student enters a clothing store as the customer, another student acts as the shop assistant, and a third student may join as a friend or second customer.

Methodology

How the activity works

Students acting as customer and shop assistant in a clothing store

1. Simulate the store

The group prepares a natural clothing-store scene: greeting, help, item, size, color, price, fitting room, decision, and closing.

2. Prepare the board

Before presenting, the group writes the phrasal verb and idiom or expression they will use, plus the complete sentence where each one appears.

Required language

Every group must include

Clothes and accessories

Use Unit 2 vocabulary such as jacket, jeans, dress, sweater, shoes, scarf, sunglasses, watch, or hat.

Size, color, and fit

Ask or answer about size, color, or fit: small, medium, large, extra large, black, blue, too big, too small, or it fits well.

Prices

Ask and answer a price question: How much is it? or How much does it cost?

One phrasal verb

Use at least one: try on, put on, take off, pick out, look for, pay for, check out, sell out, go with, or dress up.

One idiom or expression

Use at least one: fit like a glove, cost an arm and a leg, break the bank, worth every penny, for a steal, on sale, or a good deal.

Clear pronunciation

Speak clearly and do not read too fast. Give special attention to the phrasal verb and the idiom or expression.

These routes help groups start faster. Students may change the color, size, price, phrasal verb, or idiom if their conversation still sounds natural.

Say the phrasal verb slowly

Practice the full expression first: try on, look for, go with, or pay for.

Stress the particle

Make the small word clear: try ON, put ON, take OFF, check OUT.

Practice the idiom twice

Say the idiom alone, then say it in the sentence: This jacket fits like a glove.

Pause after the price

Prices are hard to hear. Say the number clearly and pause before the next line.

Watch key words

Practice medium, large, extra large, fitting room, price, and jacket.

Do not read too fast

A clear, natural conversation is better than a fast conversation with unclear pronunciation.
